No-No! Demny and Krol Toss Fourth Sens No-Hitter in Team History
Binghamton, NY - Paul Demny pitched eight hitless innings and Ian Krol tossed a perfect ninth, as the pair combined to throw the fourth no-hitter in Harrisburg Senators history in a 6-1 victory over the Binghamton Mets on Thursday night.
Demny threw 113 pitches, 69 for strikes, and surrendered one unearned run. He walked three, hit a batter, and struck out five. Demny also helped his own cause with an RBI double, his first hit and run batted in of the season. Krol, the youngest pitcher on the Senators staff, closed out the historical night by striking out the final two batters (Richard Lucas and Allan Dykstra, the three and four hitters in the order) on his 22nd birthday.
It was the fourth no-hitter in Senators history, and the first since Shairon Martis held the New Hampshire Fisher Cats hitless on the road last season on August 26 (seven innings, game one of a doubleheader). The other two were thrown by Chuck James (June 10, 2010 in a 1-0 seven-inning victory in game one of a doubleheader at Altoona) and Seung Song (April 28, 2003 in a 2-1 win over Erie).
The Senators gave Demny an early lead with three runs in the first two innings. Ricky Hague went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Anthony Rendon also had a couple hits, including an RBI double in the first to bring home the first run of the game.
