Rendon Breaks Out With Four Hits, Sens Win Third Straight in Altoona

April 14, 2013

Anthony Rendon had four hits and two RBIs and the Senators hot pitching continued, as they won 4-2 in Altoona to take their third straight over the Curve and capture the four-game series.

The Senators got on the board first in the third inning when Jose Lozada smashed an RBI single up the middle to score Brian Goodwin from third base. Goodwin was three-for-five in the game with two doubles and three runs scored. Lozada had a pair of RBIs.

Altoona tied it in its half of the third with a leadoff home run from Andy Vasquez off of Harrisburg starter Brian Broderick. It was the only blemish against the Sens righty, however, as he went five innings and allowed just the one run to earn his first victory. It also ended a string of 23 consecutive innings for the Senators pitching staff without giving up an earned run. They allowed just two earned runs in the final 30 innings of the series against Altoona.

Rendon drove home a run with a double in the fifth and a single in the seventh. Trevor Holder pitched three shutout innings and allowed just one hit in relief of Broderick. Marcos Frias picked up his first save, as he came on and coaxed Matt Curry to ground into a fielder's choice on a 3-0 pitch with two outs and the tying runs on base.

Tommorow, the Senators travel to Reading to begin a mini two-game series against the Fightin Phils. Game time is 6:35 p.m. and the game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and it's available through iHeart Radio beginning with the pregame show at 6:20 p.m.
