Rocks Cats Roll the Senators 9-2

April 8, 2013

On Monday night at Metro Bank Park, the Harrisburg Senators fell 9-2 to the New Britain Rock Cats. Nathan Karns took the hill for the first time in AA and suffered the loss, allowing six runs in the third inning. Harrisburg fell to 3-2 while New Britain improved to 2-3 on the young season.

Both teams scored a run in the second then the Rock Cats broke the game open in the third with their six runs. Three scored on a triple by Josmil Pinto, and the inning was capped with a two-run home run off the bat of Harold Garcia.

The Senators responded in the bottom of the third by loading the bases but left them loaded without scoring. Harrisburg had their chances in the game as they stranded ten base runners.

Brian Goodwin and Josh Johnson both had two hits for the Sens and combined to produce their second run of the night in the ninth inning when Goodwin tripled and Johnson singled.

Marty Popham picked up the win in relief for New Britain while Karns took the loss for Harrisburg.

Game two of the three game series is Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. The game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website and through iHeart Radio beginning at 6:45 p.m.
