Senators Announce 2014 Coaching Staff

Former Red Sox Brian Daubach tabbed to lead the Senators

Harrisburg, PA - Harrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg Senators, in conjunction with the Washington Nationals, are pleased to announce their 2014 coaching staff. This year Senators' fans will have an almost entirely new coaching staff led by new manager Brian Daubach who becomes the 19th different manager to lead the Senators since the team rejoined the Eastern League in 1987. He replaces Matt LeCroy who was named the Nationals' bullpen coach. Joining Daubach are pitching coach Chris Michalak and hitting coach Mark Harris. The Senators will also have a new trainer in 2014 with Eric Montague taking over the duties. The two holdovers to the staff are strength and conditioning coach Tony Rogowski and fourth coach Melvin Dorta.

Daubach is in his fourth season with the Nationals organization. The 42-year-old spent last season as the manager in Potomac. He was the Hagerstown Suns manager in 2011 and 2012, his first two in the Nats system. He also managed the American Defenders (2009) of the Can-Am League and served as hitting coach for the Nashua Pride in 2008 in the same league. He has an overall record of 241-174 (.581) in his three seasons managing in the Nats organization. He has led his club to the playoffs in each of the last two seasons.

Daubach was originally drafted in the 17th round of the 1990 draft by the New York Mets.   He spent seven years in the Mets' minor league system before leaving and signing as a free agent with the Florida Marlins. He made his big league debut in 1998 as a member of the Florida Marlins. He signed as a free agent with the Boston Red Sox in December 1998. In the next four seasons, 1999 through 2002, he hit at least 20 home runs and drove in at least 70 runs while primarily playing first base for the Red Sox. He played in 2003 with the Chicago White Sox, then 2004 back with Boston before finishing his big league career in 2005 with the NY Mets. In his eight-year major league career he hit 93 home runs, batted in 333 runs, and hit .259.

Michalak is in his fifth season with the Nationals organization. He previously spent three seasons with Potomac (2011, 2012 & 2013) and two in Hagerstown (2009 & 2010). He played 16 seasons professionally including 61 appearances in the big leagues with Arizona, Toronto, Texas, and Cincinnati. He pitched for 13 different organizations during his career. He was a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks inaugural 1998 Opening Day Roster. Chris was originally selected by Oakland in the 12th round in the 1993 draft. He played four years of baseball at the University of Notre Dame and was an extra in the movie "Rudy."

Harris joined the Nationals organization in 2011 as the hitting coach for the Potomac Nationals. He was with Hagerstown in 2012 and back with Potomac in 2013. He spent four years with the Kansas City Royals' organization from 2007-2010; first as a roving coach in 2007 and then as the Minor League Infield Coordinator. He has been a scout and coach in the Rangers and Phillies organizations. He played in the Yankees organization. He was a first round selection (25th overall) in the 1978 January Draft.

Montague is in his second season with the Nationals after spending ten seasons in the Houston Astros' organization. He worked at the Double-A level with the Astros in 2011 and 2012. Dorta returns to the Senators for a second season as the fourth coach. He was a fan favorite as a player for the Senators. Rogowski returns to Harrisburg for the third consecutive season and fourth overall.

The Senators offices are open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily during the off-season. The 2014 home opener is Thursday, April 10th against the Reading Fightin Phils. The Senators open their 2014 campaign on Thursday, April 3rd at the Bowie Baysox.
