Senators End Losing Streak Behind Skole

Slugger's three-run dinger supports fantastic Rivero
August 25, 2014

Behind a three-run home run off the bat of Matt Skole, the Harrisburg Senators snapped their 11-game losing streak with a 5-3 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Monday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Felipe Rivero was dominant again with six shutout innings in which he walked none and five strikeouts. The lefty threw an efficient 63 pitches, including 42 strikes. Rivero has completed 12 consecutive scoreless innings. Derek Self relieved Rivero and allowed three runs in the seventh inning, although only one run was earned. Self then completed a scoreless eighth inning. Tyler Herron provided a 1-2-3 ninth inning to pick up his sixth save of the season.

Skole provided one of his best games of the season, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and most importantly a three-run home run in the top of the fifth inning that extended Harrisburg's lead from 2-0 to 5-0. Skole also scored in the second inning on a throwing error by Jorge Flores and again in the fourth on a bases loaded double play ball. Jason Martinson (2-for-5), Ricky Hague (2-for-5, double) and Drew Vettleson (2-for-5, double) each provided a multi-hit game as well.

Prior to the game, the Senators also completed a suspended game with New Hampshire from July 27. The Fisher Cats led 9-7 with one out in the bottom of the 12th and maintained that advantage to complete the victory. There were only three pitches thrown and the game took a minute to finish.

Tomorrow night the Senators and the Fisher Cats will begin again at 6:35 p.m. Paolo Espino will start for Harrisburg against New Hampshire's Scott Copeland.
The game can be heard beginning with the pregame show at 6:20 p.m. on 1460 AM or via senatorsbaseball.com, 1460theticket.com or the iHeart Radio app.
