Souza Goes Deep But Sens Fall Short 6-3

May 29, 2013

Akron, OH - Steven Souza, Jr. homered, doubled, and drove in all three Harrisburg runs, but the Senators fell 6-3 to the Akron Aeros on Wednesday night at Canal Park.

The Senators jumped in front early for the second game in a row, rallying for two runs with two outs in the third inning. Brian Goodwin singled before Souza launched his third home run of the season.

Akron answered back with a three-run fourth, highlighted by a two-run triple off the bat of Ronny Rodriguez. Giovanny Urshela also added an RBI single.

Harrisburg tied it in the fifth, and once again it was Goodwin who started the rally with a single and Souza who drove him in, this time with a double. The Senators would only record one hit the rest of the way, though.

Jose Ramirez's leadoff home run in the bottom of the fifth off Senators starter Rob Gilliam gave the Aeros a lead that they did not relinquish. Akron added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth inning.

Will Roberts pitched six and two-thirds innings and gave up six hits, three runs, and struck out seven to earn the win. Gilliam took the loss for Harrisburg, surrendering nine hits and four runs over five innings of work. Jose Flores picked up the save with a scoreless ninth.

On Thursday, the Senators wrap up their series in Akron against Aeros with the rubber game of the three-game set. Game time is 7:05 p.m. and the game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and it's available through iHeart Radio beginning with the pregame show at 6:50 p.m.
