Treinen Spectacular as Sens Shutout Baysox 1-0

April 28, 2013

Bowie, MD - Blake Treinen pitched six and two-thirds shutout innings and Sandy Leon drove in the only run the Senators needed, as they defeated the Bowie Baysox 1-0 on Sunday afternoon in the rubber game of the series at Prince George's Stadium.

Treinen out-dueled Kevin Gausman, the number two prospect in the Baltimore Orioles organization, according to Baseball America.

The Senators scored the lone run of the game in the second inning with some good fundamental baseball. Justin Bloxom led off with a double against Gausman, Destin Hood moved him to third with a ground ball, and Leon brought Bloxom home on a sacrifice-fly.

From there, Treinen went on cruise control. He put one runner on base in the third and fourth, but was able to induce double play balls in each inning. The right-hander gave up just three hits in his six and two-thirds, with three walks and six strikeouts. Treinen has now surrendered only two earned runs in his last three outings, a span of 20.2 innings.

Pat McCoy came on in relief of Treinen with two outs in the seventh, and was able to get pinch hitter Brandon Waring to ground out to end the inning, stranding the tying run at first base. McCoy also pitched a scoreless eighth. Aaron Barrett picked up his fourth save in as many opportunities and his second in as many days with a perfect ninth inning, including two strikeouts.

Tomorrow, the Senators open a four-game series in New Britain against the Rock Cats. Game time is 6:35 p.m. and the game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and it's available through iHeart Radio beginning with the pregame show at 6:20 p.m.
