HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds dropped their final road game of the season, losing 9-6 at the Hagerstown Suns on Thursday night at Municipal Stadium.
A.J. Bogucki (4-2) earned the win in relief for the Suns (32-32, 70-63), scattering two hits across 3.1 innings while walking none and striking out five. Travis Seabrooke (3-9) fell in his final start for the Shorebirds (29-36, 58-75), allowing seven runs on nine hits in five innings while walking two and striking out three.
The Suns blasted their way on the board early as Tres Barrera scaled the big wall in center for a three-run homer to make it 3-0 after the 1st.
The Shorebirds responded in the top of the second. Frank Crinella led off with a double and slid under a tag into third on an Alejandro Juvier grounder. Tanner Kirk then grounded into a fielder's choice to score Crinella, and Cole Billingsley lifted a sac fly into center to score Kirk and make it 3-2.
Hagerstown got those two runs back in the bottom of the third on a two-run double by Nick Banks.
Kirk cracked a double into the right center gap with two out in the fourth, and Daniel Fajardo followed with his own two-sacker to the left center gap to score Kirk. Billingsley rolled a single into right to score Fajardo, and Ryan McKenna grooved a double down the left field line, making it three two-out runs for the Shorebirds to tie it at 5-5.
The home side went up for good in the bottom of the fifth. Blake Perkins singled and Carter Kieboom walked to lead off, and Telmito Agustin bunted both into scoring position. Barrera came up next and banged a two-run triple off the top of the wall in center to make it 7-5.
Perkins cracked a two-run homer into the right center bullpen in the bottom of the sixth to add insurance.
In the eighth, Juvier doubled to lead off and eventually scored on a Fajardo groundout to give the game its final margin.
Kirk led the way for the 'Birds, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs, and an RBI. Fajardo finished 2-for-4 with a double, run, and two RBIs.
Barrera finished a single shy of the cycle, going 3-for-4 with a double, triple, homer, and five RBIs. Perkins went 3-for-4 with a homer, two RBIs, and three runs.
