Four-Run Seventh Lifts Suns to 6-4 Win

Hagerstown, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (6-5) scored four runs in the seventh inning to come from behind and defeat the Delmarva Shorebirds (6-5) 6-4 at Municipal Stadium on Sunday afternoon. 

The Shorebirds struck first in the second inning.  Christian Walker led off with a walk.  After a wild pitch advanced Walker to second, Wynston Sawyer smacked a double off the base of the center field wall to give the 'Birds a 1-0 edge. The next batter, Creede Simpson, doubled to deep center field to plate Sawyer.

The Suns erased the deficit in the third.  Wes Schill reached on a one out walk and scored on a double to right-center field by Tony Renda.  Then, Khayyan Norfork lifted a sacrifice fly to center to tie the game at 2-2.

In the fourth inning, Walker led off with a towering home run over the right-center field wall to give the Shorebirds a 3-2 lead. 

The Shorebirds added to their lead in the seventh.  Gregory Lorenzo jump started the inning with a double down the right field line.  Two batters later, Tucker Nathans hit a line drive sacrifice to center to score Lorenzo. 

The Suns took their first lead in the seventh inning against reliever Kevin Jacob.  Pedro Severino singled with one out and reached second on a wild pitch.  On ball four to Wes Shill, Severino stole third.  Renda followed with an RBI single past Hutter at third.  Then, Norfork belted a double off the left-center field wall to score two runs and give the Suns a 5-4 edge.  Two batters later, Estarlin Martinez singled up the middle against Jose Nivar to stretch the lead to 6-4.

Shorebirds starter Josh Hader went five innings and picked up a no decision.  He allowed three hits and two runs, one of which was earned.

Hagerstown reliever Bryan Harper, the older brother of Bryce, earned the win over two innings.  The loss went to Kevin Jacob, who allowed three hits and four runs over 0.1 innings pitched.

The Shorebirds offense, which recorded 12 hits, was anchored by Walker (2-for-3), Sawyer (2-for-4) and Simpson (2-for-4). 

The Shorebirds travel to Kannapolis, North Carolina to begin a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox affiliate on Monday, April 15 at 7:05pm.
