Lakewood Spoils Sweep, 6-2

Four runs in sixth inning enough for BlueClaws
July 6, 2014

Salisbury, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds could not complete a three-game sweep over the Lakewood BlueClaws as they fell 6-2 on Sunday evening. Delmarva (47-40, 9-9) dropped back to .500 in the second half with the series finale loss.

Delmarva struck first with some more hot hitting from catcher Chance Sisco. The Shorebirds catcher launched his first triple of the season in the right-center gap. Sisco later scored on a single by Austin Wynns to give Delmarva a 1-0 lead.

Lakewood battled back against Shorebirds' starter Luc Rennie. A two-out RBI double by Zach Green tied the game at one run apiece in the fourth inning. Green was back at it again in the sixth inning, as he lifted a two-run single to break the deadlock. Mitch Walding just barely cleared the left field wall on a two-run home run later to make it 5-1 in Lakewood's favor.

Yacksel Rios was rock solid in the start for Lakewood. Rios allowed a second run in the sixth inning on a RBI grounder by Jeff Kemp, but that was the extent of the damage done. Rios scattered five hits through his seven innings, as he won his second straight start.

Rennie took the loss for Delmarva with the missteps in the sixth inning. Williams Louico allowed an unearned run in the seventh inning to bring the game to its final scoreline, 6-2.

The Shorebirds now host the West Virginia Power for a three-game series starting on Monday. Left-hander Mitch Horacek (4-7, 3.26) will start the opener against Power right-hander Buddy Borden (3-6, 3.82). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm at Perdue Stadium.
