Offensive Fireworks on 4th of July

Delmarva scores season-high 17 runs

Salisbury, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds blasted the Lakewood BlueClaws with a 17-5 blowout victory on the 4th of July. Delmarva (45-39, 8-8) climbed back to .500 in the second half with a huge win the series opener.

Early in the game, the two teams traded punches. Lakewood greeted Nick Cunningham with two runs in the first inning. Chance Sisco responded with a two-run shot in the bottom of the first, his fourth home run of the year. The BlueClaws retook a 3-2 lead in the second inning, before Delmarva deadlocked the game once again on a sacrifice fly by Lucas Herbst.

Delmarva scored eight unanswered runs to take a commanding lead. Gregory Lorenzo broke open the game with a two-run triple in the fifth inning. Lorenzo came to the plate with the bases loaded again, delivering yet another triple, this time scoring three runs in the sixth inning.

The margin widened with three runs in the seventh inning, and two more in the eighth inning. Lorenzo finished 4-for-5 with two triples and five RBIs. Chance Sisco went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs. Creede Simpson reached base five times with three singles and two walks.

In total, the Shorebirds scored 17 runs, their most for a single game this season. Nick Cunningham earned a victory in his Shorebirds' debut, while Alex Santana and Garrett Cortright each pitched in the win, their first appearances at Perdue Stadium. Julio Reyes took the loss for Lakewood.

The Shorebirds and BlueClaws continue their three-game series on Saturday evening. Hunter Harvey (5-4, 3.14) will start for Delmarva against right-hander Jon Prosinksi (2-1, 4.15). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm at Perdue Stadium.
