Shorebirds Fall 1-0 to Lakewood

Lakewood, NJ - The Delmarva Shorebirds (6-7) managed just two hits as the Lakewood BlueClaws (4-9) took game two of the series, 1-0, on Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Park. Shorebirds pitching also held the BlueClaws to just two hits. 

In the third inning, Lakewood struck on a solo home run to right-center field by Willie Carmona. 

Shorebirds starter Parker Bridwell tossed five strong innings. He allowed two hits and one run. Bridwell struck out seven batters, a fourth consecutive start in which he has fanned at least seven batters.

Lakewood starter Severino Gonzalez hurled six perfect innings. He retired all 18 batters that came to the plate against him to earn the win.

The Shorebirds recorded their first hit in the seventh on a single to left field by Tucker Nathans, who recorded both hits. Nathans also singled with two outs in the ninth inning.

Ashur Tolliver entered in the seventh inning and retired all nine batters he faced with a season high six strikeouts. 

Lakewood closer Steven Inch came on in the eighth inning and held the Shorebirds scoreless to earn his tenth save. 

The Shorebirds and BlueClaws conclude the series on Wednesday, July 3 at 7:05pm. RHP Mark Blackmar is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
