Shorebirds Fall 10-2 in Game Three

Torsten Boss hits his sixth home run

Greensboro, NC - The Greensboro Grasshoppers (5-5) scored four runs in the second inning and held the Shorebirds scoreless between the third and eighth innings to win game three, 10-2, on Saturday night at NewBridge Bank Park.

The Shorebirds scored first in the first inning. With one out, Tucker Nathans and Creede Simpson hit back-to-back singles. After a walk to Nik Balog, Torsten Boss avoided a double play on a fielder's choice, allowing Nathans to score.

Greensboro answered with a run in the first on a double to deep center by Viosergy Rosa.

In the second, Greensboro scored four runs to build a 5-1 lead. The inning was highlighted by a bases loaded triple to left-center field by Yefri Perez that cleared the bases.

Shorebirds starter Josh Hader lasted three innings, his shortest outing of the season. He gave up six hits and five runs. 

Greensboro starter Dejai Oliver earned the win over six innings. He yielded four hits and one run. 

In the eighth inning, the Grasshoppers put the game out of reach against Jose Nivar. Anthony Gomez hit a two-run single and Rosa hit a line drive three-run home run to stretch the lead to 10-1.

In the ninth inning, Torsten Boss led off with a long home run to right field, his sixth of the season. Greensboro reliever Sean Donatello retired the next three hitters to end the game. 

Shorebirds reliever Lex Rutledge was strong of 3.2 innings in replace of Hader. He allowed three hits and no runs. 

The Shorebirds and Grasshoppers play game the series finale on Sunday, June 30 at 4pm. RHP Juan Guzman is the scheduled starter.
