Shorebirds Fall 3-1 to Lakewood in Game One

Salisbury, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds (19-23) managed just three hits as the Lakewood BlueClaws (18-24) took game one of the series, 3-1, at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Monday night. The Shorebirds have recorded just four total hits in the last three games combined. 

The Shorebirds capitalized on an error to grab a 1-0 lead in the first. Gregory Lorenzo reached to lead off on a mishandled ground ball by Roman Quinn. Lorenzo advanced to second on a wild pitch. He reached third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a sacrifice fly to right field to Tucker Nathans.

Lakewood answered with a run in the third. Mitch Walding drew a lead off walk and later scored on a two out double to left field by Roman Quinn.  

The BlueClaws grabbed the lead in the sixth inning. Zach Taylor reached on a fielder's choice. With two outs, Miguel Chalas replaced Mark Blackmar. Larry Greene, Jr. doubled to left-center field to advance Taylor to third. Then, Mitch Walding singled to right field to push the 'Claws in front 2-1.

Mark Blackmar lasted a season long 5.2 innings, but was pinned with the loss. He allowed five hits and two runs.

Lakewood tacked on a run in the seventh inning on a home run to right field by Quinn, his fourth of the season. 

The Shorebirds did not record a hit against the Lakewood bullpen over the final four innings.

Lakewood starter Jonathan Musser earned the win over five innings in his season debut. 

Nik Balog accounted for two of the three Shorebirds hits. 

Lex Rutledge tossed two scoreless innings out of the Shorebirds bullpen. 

The Shorebirds and BlueClaws play game two of the series on Tuesday, May 21 at 7:05pm. RHP Parker Bridwell is the scheduled starter for the Shorebirds.
