Shorebirds Fall 6-3; Swept by Legends

Tucker Nathans connects on a two-run homer

Salisbury, MD - The Lexington Legends (12-16) scored six runs on one hit in the sixth inning en route to a 6-3 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds (13-15) on Friday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

The first five innings of the game were dominated by the starting pitchers. Shorebirds lefty Josh Hader allowed just three hits over the first five innings while Legends left-hander Colin Rodgers gave up just two hits over the first five innings.

Hader was replaced by Williams Louico in the sixth. Louico walked the first two batters of the inning and hit the third to load the bases. Yowell Espinal then grounded to third and Joel Hutter mishandled, allowing Michael Antonio to score. Louico walked the next two batters to give the Legends a 3-0 lead. Bubba Starling recorded a two-run flare single to shallow right field to cap the inning.

The Shorebirds responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth on a double by Wynston Sawyer to score Christian Walker, who reached on an error by Raul Mondesi.

In the seventh, the Shorebirds trimmed the gap to 6-3. Steel Russell reached on a single with one out. Two batters later, Tucker Nathans hit a two-run homer to right field.

The Shorebirds stranded the bases loaded in the eighth inning and went quiet in the ninth.

Legends starter Rodgers earned the win over 5.2 innings. He allowed two hits and one unearned run. Louico was pinned with the loss in 0.1 inning pitched. He gave up three earned runs and walked four batters. 

Left-hander Lex Rutledge went 1.2 innings in his Shorebirds debut. He yielded one hit and no runs. Matt Price pitched the final two innings for the Shorebirds and gave up one hit and no runs. 

The Shorebirds open a four-game series against the Charleston RiverDogs on Saturday, May 4 at 7:05pm.
