Shorebirds Hold Off Intimidators, 5-4

Boss goes 3-for-3 with a home run

Salisbury, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds (23-42) clubbed two home runs and held off the Kannapolis Intimidators (31-33) for a 5-4 win on Wednesday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. Orioles infielder Ryan Flaherty went 1-for-4 in his Shorebirds debut. 

The Shorebirds scored a first inning run for the second straight night. Adrian Marin reached on a one out error by third baseman Eric Grabe. He stole second and scored on a base hit into left field by Torsten Boss.

The Intimidators tied the game in the third. Tim Anderson got on base with a two out single. Then, Jason Coats launched a double to left-center field to tie the game.

Shorebirds starter Bennett Parry went three innings. He yielded four hits and one run. 

In the fourth inning, the Shorebirds regained the lead. On a 3-2 pitch, Boss hit a solo home run to right field off his college teammate Tony Bucciferro to give the Shorebirds a 2-1 lead. It was his seventh home run of the season and first since June 29. Creede Simpson reached on a fielder's choice. Two batters later, Herbst singled to right to send Simpson to third. Then, Kris Richards hit a flare to right field to give the Shorebirds a 3-1 lead.

Mark Blackmar entered out of the Shorebirds pen in the fourth and tossed four scoreless innings. He gave up just one hit to earn the win. 

The Shorebirds extended the lead in the sixth inning. Creede Simpson hit a towering home run, his ninth of the season, to lead off the inning. Joel Hutter followed with a single and advanced to second on a steal. With two outs, Gregory Lorenzo smacked a double to right-center field to give the Shorebirds a 5-1 lead.

 

Kannapolis bridged the gap in the eighth against Mychal Givens. With the bases loaded on three singles, Adam Heisler hit a two-run double to left field to trim the deficit to 5-3.

The Intimidators got within one in the ninth inning. Jacob May hit a two out double to left field. Then, Tim Anderson tripled to deep right field to slice the deficit to 5-4. Givens struck out Coats to end the game with the tying run at third.

Boss went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk. 

The Shorebirds and Intimidators conclude the home portion of the schedule on Thursday, August 29 at 7:05pm.
