Shorebirds Sweep Twinbill

Charleston, WV - The Delmarva Shorebirds took both games of their doubleheader over the West Virginia Power on Saturday night. The Shorebirds (37-31) won the opener 6-4 to snap a six-game losing skid, and then dominated for a 14-5 win in the nightcap.

Mike Yastrzemski and Steven Brault led the charge in game one. The Shorebirds outfielder blasted a leadoff home run to jumpstart the evening. Yastrzemski hit another solo home run in the sixth inning, his second multi-homer game of the season.

As Delmarva edged their way to a 6-0 lead, Steven Brault shut down the Power lineup. The left-hander did not allow a run until the seventh inning with a comfortable lead already in hand. Brault earned his seventh win of the season, while Cody Dickson fell to 2-8 for West Virginia.

In the second game, the Shorebirds' offense impressed again, scoring a season-high 14 runs. Delmarva led 8-0 after three in the first inning and five more in the second. Chance Sisco went 4-for-5 with two doubles and four runs driven in, while Jared Breen and Drew Dosch both racked up three-hit games with four runs scored.

Conor Bierfeldt helped out with a 2-for-3 night with a two-run double in the first inning, and four RBIs in total. Tanner Rust, who made his Shorebirds' debut on Saturday, went 2-for-5 with three RBIs in game two.

Austin Urban took the win for Delmarva, improving to 3-4. Dovydas Neverauskas allowed eight runs in just 1 2/3 innings for the loss for West Virginia. This was the Shorebirds' fourth doubleheader sweep of the season, having previously done the same to Kannapolis, Hagerstown and Charleston.

The Shorebirds go for the series sweep as they close the first half on Sunday afternoon. Right-hander Luc Rennie (2-6, 6.21) starts for Delmarva against West Virginia righty Luis Heredia (0-2, 5.93). First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 pm at Appalachian Power Park.
