Walker Named Player of the Month

Shorebirds 1B batted .360 with three homers in April

Salisbury, MD - In conjunction with the Baltimore Orioles, the Delmarva Shorebirds are excited to announce that first baseman Christian Walker has been named the Orioles Minor League Player of the Month for April. 

Walker, 22, batted .360 with three home runs and 16 runs-batted-in during the month of April. He hit safely in 18 of 24 games during the month and had 11 multi-hit games. 

The Limerick, Pennsylvania native currently ranks fifth in the South Atlantic League in batting average (.351) and fifth in the league in on-base percentage (.431). 

Amongst Orioles minor leaguers, Walker ranks first in batting average (.351), first in hits (33) and first in on-base percentage (.431).

Walker anchored the Shorebirds offense, which batted .278 in April, their highest month batting average since July of 2007 when the Shorebirds hit .286. 

A Shorebirds player has received one of the April Orioles minor league awards each of the last three seasons. In 2011, Manny Machado was named the Orioles Player of the Month for April. In 2012, Dylan Bundy was the recipient of the Orioles Pitcher of the Month for April.

Walker will be honored during a future Shorebirds game at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

Former Shorebirds pitcher Tim Berry, now of the Frederick Keys, was named the Orioles Minor League Pitcher of the Month.
