Jagielo hits walkoff homer to lift Yanks to victory

Staten Island, NY - August 18th - Eric Jagielo hit a walkoff home run in the bottom of the 11th to lead the Staten Island Yankees to a 3-2 victory over the Tri-City ValleyCats on Sunday.

The Yankees had the bases loaded with one out in the first, but were unable to score. Abiatal Avelino single before Eric Jagielo doubled. Then Mike Ford walked, but back-to-back strikeouts by Mike O'Neill and Bubba Jones ended the inning.

Both teams were scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when Jagielo hit a two out double. He then advanced to third on a wild pitch and was plated on an RBI single to right by Ford.

In the eighth, Hector Crespo singled on a line drive to right and moved to second when Kale Sumner grounded out. Crespo then crossed the plate when Trent Garrison reached base on a fielding error by second baseman Conrad Gregor.

The ValleyCats tied the game in the top of the ninth with one swing of the bat. Michael Martinez homered on a fly ball to left to score Conrad Gregor - who had singled. 

Dillon McNamara earned his fourth win for Staten Island after tossing 1.0 scoreless inning, while Tyler Brunnemann suffered the loss for Tri-City. Brunnemann pitched just 0.1 inning and allowed the one earned run off one hit.

The Yankees will travel to Brooklyn tomorrow for a doubleheader against the Cyclones beginning at 5:30PM. The team will return home to Richmond County Bank Ballpark on Wednesday, August 21 to face the Cyclones again. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00PM.
