Yankees blast past Cyclones 9-3

Staten Island, NY - August 30th - The Staten Island Yankees defeated the rival Brooklyn Cyclones 9-3 on Friday night as Yeicok Calderon and Eric Jagielo both homered.

Staten Island was first on the board, scoring four runs in the bottom of the third. Trent Garrison led off the frame with a line drive single to right before Derek Toadvine walked. Mike Ford then hit a two-out two-run double. Up next, Yeicok Caderon also doubled to plate Ford. Calderon then scored on a ground ball single off the bat of Kale Sumner.

Brooklyn picked up a run in the following frame when Jonathan Clark scored on a ground out by L. J. Mazzilli to make it 4-1.

In the bottom half of the inning, Calderon hit a three-run shot over the right field wall. Eric Jagielo and Ford scored on the play, both having singled.

The Cyclones put up another run in the fifth. Alex Sanchez doubled on a ground ball to left and later crossed the plate when Tomas Nido hit a ground-rule double on a fly ball to right-center field.

Two innings later, Brooklyn cut the Yankees' lead to four runs. Jared King walked before James Roche singled. Sanchez then reached on a force attempt throwing error by second baseman Derek Toadvine to load the bases. King scored when Matt Oberste grounded into a double play.

The Yankees extended their lead in the eighth when Jagielo hit a two-run home run to center.

David Palladino earned his second win after tossing 5.0 innings, allowing two earned runs off three hits.

The Yankees will travel to Hudson Valley tomorrow to take on the Renegades at 7:00PM. RHP Philip Walby (3-1, 2.91 ERA) is scheduled to get the start for Staten Island, while LHP Ben Griset (3-3, 3.54 ERA) is expected to toe the mound for Hudson Valley.
