Yankees defeated by Spinners 3-1

Staten Island, NY - August 11th - The Lowell Spinners took Staten Island turf defeating the Yankees 3-1 on Sunday.

In the top of the second, Spinners' first baseman Nathan Minnich picked up an RBI with a double to left, bringing Deiner Lopez home from second. Lopez had previously walked to reach base.

Midway through the top of the third, Yankees' pitcher Conner Kendrick took the mound replacing starter Rookie Davis. Pitching 2.2 innings, Davis left the game after giving up one earned run off two hits and two walks. He also struck out four batters.

Lowell starting pitcher Daniel McGrath tossed 5.0 perfect innings with six strikeouts.

Two consecutive home runs were hit by Spinners' first baseman Nathan Minnich and DH Nick Moore in the top of the seventh earning the Spinners a 3-0 lead.    

Giving up one hit and two walks, Kendrick pitched 3.1 innings. Kelvin Castro took the mound for one inning with Nick Rumbelow to finish it off.

Reaching the bottom of the eighth, Yankees' DH Mike Ford singled to first and later came home on a ground out by Trent Garrison.

The Yankees will travel to Aberdeen after the All-Star break. On Wednesday, August 14 the team will take on the Ironbirds at 7:05PM. The next home game will be played on Friday, August 16.
