Project Open Hand will once again be the official non-profit partner of the San Francisco Giant Race. Last year the Giant Race raised over $225,000 for Project Open Hand.  Project Open Hand is one of the Bay Area's best-known, most respected and beloved charities. For more than 25 years Project Open Hand has provided food, nourishment and emotional support to people facing life-threatening illnesses. In 1985, founder Ruth Brinker, a retired meal service manager, began preparing meals for seven people living with AIDS. Project Open Hand today serves men, women and children with any acute, critical illness - HIV/AIDS, cancer, heart disease and many others, as well as a separate program for seniors ensuring companionship and nutrition for our community's elderly. For more information about Project Open Hand, please visit www.openhand.org.

Junior Giants and the Bay Area Women's Sports Initiative are back as the official charity partners of The San Jose Giant Race. Those who wish to fundraise for Junior Giants will not only allow for local South Bay Area youth to participate in Little League, but will also make themselves eligible to receive fundraising incentives such as autographed items by Giants players. Runners who wish to donate an extra $20 during registration or at sanjosegiantrace.com can give a young girl from Bay Area Womens Sports Initiative (www.bawsi.org) the opportunity to participate in the 5k for free. In 2012, well over 100 BAWSI kids were able to participate due to the generosity of San Jose Giant Race participants.
