San Jose Giants to Call Municipal Stadium Home Through 2018

City Council Approves Five Year Lease Extension
December 17, 2013

San Jose, CA- The San Jose City Council approved today a five year lease extension to keep the San Jose Giants playing at Municipal Stadium through the 2018 season. Terms of the agreement include the ability for the San Jose Giants to sell stadium naming rights and continue to pursue on-site development options to fund capital improvements at the ballpark.

"We are very excited to call San Jose and Municipal Stadium our home for at least the next half decade," said Daniel Orum, San Jose Giants President and CEO. "Over the past year, we have worked hard with the City to come to an agreement on a lease extension that allows us to continue to provide fun, affordable, family entertainment for families for years to come."

One of the most significant elements of the lease extension allows the San Jose Giants to sell stadium naming rights for Municipal Stadium. All funds generated by a naming rights agreement will be used to finance essential improvements to the stadium.

Municipal Stadium has hosted professional baseball in San Jose for over 70 years. The San Jose Giants have been the Class A Advanced affiliate of the San Francisco Giants since 1988, currently the longest affiliation in the California League. The Giants were the 2013 North Division Champions and have made a California League record 10 consecutive playoff appearances. In 2013, the organization also welcomed over 200,000 fans at Municipal Stadium for the fifth consecutive season.

The San Jose Giants 2014 season begins on Thursday, April 3. For information on the 2014 season and ticket packages please visit sjgiants.com, call (408) 297-1435 or visit the Municipal Stadium Box Office Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
