San Jose, CA- San Jose Giants right-handed pitcher, Shaun Anderson , has been named California League Pitcher of the Week for his lights-out start on August 30, 2017. Anderson tossed six scoreless frames while only allowing one hit en route to a 3-0 shutout victory over the Inland Empire 66ers. Anderson, who earned the win, retired the first fifteen batters he faced, walked none and struck out seven batters during his 76-pitch outing.
Anderson was acquired from the Boston Red Sox organization in a July trade and finished his 2017 San Jose Giants season with a 3-3 record. The righty fashioned a 3.51 ERA in six appearances while striking out 22 batters. He held opposing hitters to an impressive .198 average and only surrendered four walks in 25 and 2/3 innings of work.
The University of Florida product was drafted in the 3rd round by the Boston Red Sox in 2016. Anderson was acquired from the Red Sox in a trade involving Eduardo Nuñez and is the #17 overall prospect for the San Francisco Giants according to MLB.com.
The San Jose Giant's season concluded on Monday, September 4. The Giants finished the season with a 62-78 overall record and missed the playoffs for just the second time since 2003. San Jose ended the season three games behind the Stockton Ports for the California League North Division second-half crown.
