Three SJ Giants Named Organizational All-Stars
Three 2013 San Jose Giants - outfielders Devin Harris and Mac Williamson and pitcher Ty Blach - were named to the MiLB.com San Francisco Organizational All-Star team today. Of the 12 players represented on the team, eight are former San Jose Giants.
San Jose finished the regular season with a California League-best 83-57 overall record. The Giants won the North Division title for the first time since 2010 before falling in the Championship Series.
The San Francisco farm system posted a cumulative record of 436-324 this year - the top winning percentage (.574) of all 30 organizations. The Giants' Arizona Rookie League and Dominican Summer League teams both won league championships in 2013. Class-A Augusta and Short-Season Salem-Keizer also reached the playoffs.
Williamson and Harris concluded the 2013 season ranked first and second respectively in the Giants farm system in both home runs and RBI's. Williamson, a 2012 third round draft pick, hit .292 this year to go with 31 doubles, 25 home runs and 89 RBI's. The slugging right fielder hit a sizzling .331 with 16 home runs after the All-Star break. His 25 round-trippers overall ranked tied for third both in the California League and on San Jose's single-season home run list.
Harris enjoyed a breakout 2013 after struggling with San Jose the year prior. His 23 home runs were fifth-most in the Cal League to go with 84 RBI's and a .258 batting average. Harris also contributed 40 doubles to become the fourth player in San Jose Giants history to hit 40 or more doubles in a season.
Blach was the most consistent starting pitcher on San Jose's talented staff this year. The left-hander was 12-4 with a California League-best 2.90 ERA in 22 games (20 starts). Blach issued only 18 walks all season to go with 117 strikeouts over 130 1/3 innings. He ranked tied for first in the San Francisco farm system in wins. Blach was also a midseason and postseason California League All-Star in 2013.
Past San Jose Giants recognized by MiLB.com today include Brett Pill (first base), Joe Panik (second base), Chris Dominguez (third base), Johnny Monell (catcher) and Francisco Peguero (outfield). Pill led Triple-A Fresno with 79 RBI's this year despite playing in just 68 games. He also produced 18 home runs and a .344 batting average. Panik led all Giants second base farmhands in RBI's (57), doubles (27) and walks (58). He was named to the organizational All-Star team for a third year in a row. Dominguez hit 15 homers to go with 65 RBI's and a .294 batting average in Fresno. Monell, a standout in Fresno as well, was first among Giants minor league catchers this year in batting average (.275), home runs (20), RBI's (64) and doubles (27). Finally, Peguero hit .316 in 70 games with the Grizzlies.
Monell was recently traded to the Baltimore Orioles while Peguero is now a free agent.
Jeremy Sy (shortstop - Salem-Keizer), Javier Herrera (utility - Richmond), Chris Johnson (starting pitcher - Salem-Keizer) and Raymundo Montero (relief pitcher - Salem-Keizer) round out the organizational All-Star team.
