The Colorado Springs Sky Sox have announced that RHP Taylor Jungmann has been named the Sky Sox Pitcher of the Month, while infielder Nate Orf has been named the Sky Sox Player of the Month for the months of August and September.
Jungmann received his second Sky Sox Pitcher of the Month honor of 2017 after ending the season as the team's win leader with nine. The June honoree went 2-1 in five August starts, including a 4-0 shutout of the Round Rock Express on August 31. His 1.50 earned run average during the month is the lowest among the Sky Sox starting rotation. All five of Jungmann's starts were quality starts, allowing two earned runs or less in six innings of work each time he took the mound. The righty struck out 25 batters in 30 innings, including tying his season-high with eight strikeouts August 22 against Oklahoma City.
After sharing July Player of the Month honors with teammate Kyle Wren, Orf earned the final Player of the Month honors by leading the Sox with a .366 average in 26 games played in August. His 34 hits in the season's final full month led the Sky Sox, as did his 11 doubles, three triples and four home runs. Orf drove in 11 runs in August, good for third on the team behind Ivan De Jesus (16) and Brett Phillips (12). Orf also hit for the cycle August 19 against Oklahoma City, the first time a Sox batter has achieved the feat since Dexter Fowler did so in 2010.
The 2017 postseason is in full swing at Security Service Field on Friday, September 8. For ticket information, game schedule, promotions calendar or for additional information about the Sky Sox, call (719) 304-5610, visit SkySox.com, like us on Facebook or follow the team on Twitter and Instagram.
