C.J. Cron Receives First MLB Call Up

SALT LAKE CITY (May 3, 2014) - The Los Angeles Angels announced today that the club has selected the contract of Salt Lake Bees first baseman C.J. Cron. The Bees slugger will join the club in Anaheim and is in the Angels' lineup tonight hitting fifth as the designated hitter.  

Cron, a former University of Utah star, has played in 28 games for Salt Lake, hitting .319 with 12 doubles, six home runs and 26 RBIs. At the time of his call up Cron was leading the Pacific Coast League in doubles, and extra-base hits (19), while ranking third in RBIs.

Along with Cron the Angels have recalled infielder Luis Jimenez, who has a team-high seven home runs for Salt Lake this season. Halos third baseman David Freese was placed on the disabled list and outfielder J.B. Shuck was optioned to Salt Lake to make room for Jimenez and Cron.

The Salt Lake Bees continue with an eight-game homestand at Smith's Ballpark with "Pack the Park Pink" on Saturday night. The Bees will wear special jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game. Proceeds will go to Huntsman Cancer Foundation. A fireworks show will take place after the game. Also included in the homestand is Revenge of the Fifth, a salute to Star Wars on May 5, Teacher Appreciation Night on May 6, where teachers can receive a free ticket by presenting their teacher I.D. at the box office and on May 9 a Los Angeles Angels flyaway giveaway.
