Dontrelle Willis Wins Bees's Debut

August 13, 2013

Dontrelle Willis tossed six strong innings in his Bees' debut, as Salt Lake shutout the Albuquerque Isotopes 2-0 on Tuesday night. Willis, the 2003 National League Rookie of the Year with the Marlins, went six innings and allowed just three hits with five strikeouts and one walk to earn the victory. Kevin Johnson pitched one and two-third scoreless inning and Cory Rasmus recorded the final four outs to earn his third save. The shutout was the fifth of the season for the Salt Lake pitching staff.

The Bees took a 1-0 lead in the fourth, as Efren Navarro drew a one out walk, took third on a single by Luis Rodriguez and came home on a single to right by Robbie Widlansky. They would add an insurance run in the fifth, as Peter Bourjos doubled with one out and then scored on a base hit to left by Luis Jimenez. Widlansky led Salt Lake with two hits and one run batted in, as the first place Bees are now 4-2 on their current road trip.
