Reno takes series opener

May 15, 2014

Former Bee Andy Marte led off the sixth inning with a home run to snap a 2-2 tie and send the Reno Aces to a 5-2 win over the Salt Lake Bees on Thursday afternoon. After the Aces tied the game in the fifth, Marte lifted an 0-1 pitch from Justin Thomas over the left field wall to put Reno in front. The Aces would add two insurance runs in the eighth, as they hand Salt Lake its franchise record 11th consecutive loss.

The Bees took a 1-0 lead in the second, as Brennan Boesch doubled and scored on an error. After the Aces tied it in the third, Salt Lake regained the lead in the fourth, as Drew Heid tripled home Luis Martinez from first base with two out. Thomas (1-5) takes the loss, despite a good performance, as he allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings with five strikeouts and three walks. Matt Long singled in the eighth to extend his hitting streak to seven games, as the Bees drop to 0-9 in day games this season.
