Salt Lake falls in series finale in Sacramento

May 13, 2014

An RBI single by Alden Carrithers in the bottom of the ninth gave the Sacramento River Cats a 10-9 win over the Salt Lake Bees on Tuesday afternoon. Salt Lake's Matt Long delivered a two run single in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 9-9 before Jose Martinez opened the bottom of the ninth with a double to left field off of Brandon Lyon (0-5). Martinez advanced to third on a ground out and later scored on Carrithers' bloop single to right field.

The Bees led 7-5 going into the eighth, but two walks by Nick Maronde and four straight singles off of Lyon brought home four runs for Sacramento, which swept the four game series and extended Salt Lake's losing streak to a franchise record ten games. Brennan Boesch led the Bees with two hits, including a three run homer, and four runs batted in, while Long would add two hits and three RBI. Jimmy Swift chipped in with three hits and one RBI, as Salt Lake played its ninth consecutive road game that has been decided by one run. They are 2-7 in those games.
