Mets record 12 strikeouts, drop Hammerheads 3-1

Urena hits two doubles, scores twice

JUPITER, Fla. (July 7, 2017) - Three St. Lucie pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts as the Mets clipped the Jupiter Hammerheads 3-1 on Friday at Roger Dean Stadium. Starter Andrew Church threw 6.2 masterful innings with a season-high eight strikeouts. JUPITER, Fla. (July 7, 2017) - Three St. Lucie pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts as the Mets clipped the Jupiter Hammerheads 3-1 on Friday at Roger Dean Stadium.
 
Starter Andrew Church threw 6.2 masterful innings with a season-high eight strikeouts. The Hammerheads loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth inning but Church recovered to strike out three in a row to end the threat.
 
Alex Paslsha tossed 1.1 scoreless innings. He had two runners in scoring position in the eighth with no outs but got three straight outs to keep the Mets 3-1 lead.
 
Josh Torres struck out the side in the ninth for his third save.
 
At the plate, Jhoan Urena went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two runs scored.
 
Anthony Dimino started the fifth inning with a double. He later scored on a double play ball hit by John Mora for the game's first run.
 
In the sixth, Urena hit a double and scored on single by Peter Alonso to make it 2-0.
 
The Hammerheads scored their only run off of Church in the bottom of the sixth when John Silviano laced a triple and scored on a ground out.
 
The Mets got the run back in the eighth inning on back-to-back doubles by Urena and Alonso.
 
Alonso went 2 for 4 with two RBI. He has two hits in three consecutive games.
 
Tim Tebow went 1 for 4 with a single in his first at-bat. He has a six-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in all 11 games with St. Lucie.
 
Church got the win. He allowed six hits and one run over his 6.2 innings.
 
Jupiter starter James Needy gave up two runs in 6.2 innings. Silviano tripled twice.
 
The Mets (4-11, 37-46) and Hammerheads (7-8, 40-43) continue their series at Roger Dean Stadium on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
