Shields Lifts Mets to Walk-Off Win over Fort Myers

Robbie Shields had a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth as the Mets rallied past Fort Myers 4-3 on Wednesday at Tradition Field.

The Mets won their fifth straight game and remain in first place in the Florida State League Second Half South.

The Mets trailed 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth before a two-run rally. Dustin Lawley had a leadoff single to right against Tyler Jones. Rylan Sandoval singled to right with one out. Matt Reynolds drilled a game-tying single to center to score Lawley. Shields ripped an RBI single to left-center to score Sandoval to win the game.

Lawley, who finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored, hit a game-tying solo home run in the seventh to left for his league-leading 25th of the season.

Shields went 3-for-4 with a run scored and RBI.

Domingo Tapia allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits while walking three and striking out three over five innings.

Randy Fontanez pitched two scoreless innings and fanned three.

Carlos Vazquez picked up the win, allowing one run and one hit in two innings.

The Mets host the Miracle in the series finale on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Tradition Field. Matt Bowman will make the start for the Mets.
