Smokies announce 2013 job search

The Tennessee Smokies are now accepting applications looking for bright, creative and hard working individuals to become part of our team for the 2013 season. The team is looking to fill game day positions in many areas to help enhance our guest's "nine-inning vacation."

All game day positions being offered are part-time, seasonal positions, and will conclude at the end of the Smokies' 2013 baseball season.

If you would like to be part of our team, here's how you can:
Step 1: You MUST fill out an application at Smokies Park through Thursday, February 28.
*Interviews will not be given at this time

  • Applications must be filled out in person in the Smokies offices during open office hours Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • (Offices are located at Smokies Park on the second level. Use elevator behind home plate to access second floor.)

Step 2: The Smokies will then contact select individuals for a 'call back,' which will then consist of a formal interview. Date and time of the 'call backs' will be announced at a later date.
For those who are unable to make the February 28 deadline, the Smokies will be accepting applications during normal business hours through March 31. Interested parties are encouraged to apply before February 28 though, as the team will be looking to fill the available positions as soon as possible.

POSITION DESCRIPTIONS

Retail Store Associate- Duties include customer service, cashiering, and maintenance of a year-round retail store. If you are friendly and believe in excellent customer service, this would be an ideal and fun position working in the sports entertainment business. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends. (Especially during the summer seasons).

Usher- Duties include direct fan customer service, assisting people in finding their seats including walking up and down stairs several times per game, making sure people sit in their ticketed seats, answering any questions fans may have, assisting security in keeping fans out of restricted areas, and ensuring the safety and comfort of fans in your vicinity. Above all, you must always appear approachable and eager to assist and make friends.

Souvenir/Program Vendors- Vendors will sell programs/souvenirs out of their assigned booths or by vending the park for additional sales. Must have organizational skills in order to keep track of both selling programs/souvenirs and collecting money.

Kid Zone Staff/Playground Game Operators- Duties include operating the Speed Pitch, Home Run Challenge, and other inflatables. Applicants must enjoy working with children, be outgoing and personable. Will make sure playground is kept safe and clean for all children playing, and make certain a family friendly environment for families.

Ticket Takers- Duties include checking tickets for correct dates and scanning tickets and/or tearing stubs. Also will assist with distribution of promotional items.

Parking Attendants- Attendants will be responsible for setting up the parking lot barricades, collecting money and guiding cars into the parking area. Attendants will also assist in directing traffic after the games along with being responsible for tear down and clean up of the parking lot.

Security Bag Checkers- Inspectall bags, containers, and other items entering the ballpark for the sake of fan safety and adherence to league rules. Will be searching bags for weapons and other instruments that may harm fans in attendance. Will also confiscate outside food, beverage, and containers that were not purchased at the ballpark. Must have ability to effectively screen fans at the gates with a welcoming demeanor, without coming off as pushy or rude.

Ticket Sellers- Duties include working ticket windows, making computer sales and assisting with the distribution of promotional items.

Mascot- Will wear one of our mascot outfits and entertain fans during games. Responsible for assisting in on-field contests. Applicants must be energetic and enjoy working with children, and be available for paid mascot appearances in the East Tennessee Area throughout the year.

Stadium Vendor/Hawker- Vendors would sell refreshments in the seating areas of the ballpark. Candidates need to be in very good physical condition. Must be able to carry loads of up to 40 pounds up and down the stairs of the stadium. Commission based on amount of product sold.

Suite Hostesses/Café Hostesses- Attendants will provide food and beverage in an upscale environment. Prior restaurant/banquet server experience required. Appropriate dress required.

First Aid Attendant- Will be stationed in First Aid room and will respond to any medical needs of fans/staff. Must be an EMT or Paramedic with current license.

Pocket Schedule Delivery Driver:
Drive and deliver pocket schedules to businesses and establishments of East Tennessee. You will be required to speak to business representatives and/or managers as a representative of the Tennessee Smokies. Familiarity of local communities and effective customer service is required as well.

Tennessee Smokies Part-Time Camera Operator - We are looking for aspiring individuals who are interested in live game day camera work. Previous camera work and experience a MAJOR plus. Must be able to take direction well, lift 30-40 lbs, and stand for long periods of time. Basic baseball knowledge a plus. Flexible schedule is available.

Rally Crew Member - On field personality who helps plan, coordinate & execute half inning events. Must be energetic, outgoing, willing to perform in front of large crowds and work with children.

Concession Stand Workers - Concession stand workers prepare/serve food to fans attending Smokies games. Various duties include cash register operation, food preparation and cleaning. Workers are expected to perform the duties of their job as assigned by the stand manager or the Director of Food and Beverage. Employee are expected to maintain a high level of personal hygiene and a positive attitude. Some workers will be responsible for handling cash and making proper change.

Concession Stand Managers - The stand manager is responsible for safe and efficient operation of the stadium's concession stands. Each stand manager will oversee a small number of stand workers and insure that each worker performs the duties that are assigned to them. The stand manager is responsible for insuring accurate inventory and cash deposits are performed after each event. Reports directly to the Director of Food and Beverage,

Physical Demands

While each job here at Smokies Park is different, each one requires physical demands that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing your duties you may be required to stand and walk for extended periods of time, run, sit, navigate stairs, stoop, kneel, or crouch. You may be asked to occasionally lift and/or move up to approximately 25 pounds. You will be exposed to outside weather conditions and noise levels. We ask that you be aware of these conditions and if you feel that you cannot meet these requirements please inform the person you interview with.
