Beloit Drops Series Opener to Quad Cities

August 22, 2014

BELOIT, Wisc - The Snapper started Thursday night's game off well but couldn't hold onto the lead as Beloit fell to the Quad Cities River Bandits by a score of 5-2.

Beloit hopped on the board first when B.J. Boyd doubled off the center field wall to score Josh Ludy.

Hunter Adkins started the game well for the Snappers. He pitched four perfect innings before giving up two hits in the fifth inning, one of which was a two run homer from Quad Cities' J.D. Davis. After allowing the two hits, Sam Roberts came in to replace Adkins on the mound.

The Snappers quickly came back to tie the game up at 2-2 when Matt Chapman grounded out into a double play but still drove in Branden Cogswell for the score.

The River Bandits then scored two runs to take the lead back, 4-2, in the top of the seventh. After Quad Cities scored those two runs, Joel Seddon came in to pitch for Beloit.

Tyler Vail came in to replace Joel Seddon on the mound in the top of the ninth inning but it was nothing doing. The Snappers just couldn't find their offense late in the game, a common theme with this season. Even though they outnumbered the River Bandits in hits, the Snappers were just 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position.

Quad Cities extended their lead, 5-2, when James Ramsay hit his second homer of the season.

Beloit falls to 50-78 on the season as Sam Roberts got the loss and goes to 0-4. Quad Cities' Frederick Tiburcio gets the win and increases to 3-3 while Chris Cotton got credit for the save.

The Snappers play again at Pohlman Field tomorrow night, August 22nd at 7:00 pm. There will be a fireworks show after the game! Call (608) 362-2272, stop by the box office, or go to www.snappersbaseball.com to buy tickets.
