Despite 5-2 Loss, Mathews Homers Twice

August 23, 2014

BELOIT, Wisc - One bad pitching inning and a lack of offense was the downfall for Beloit on Saturday night. Ryan Mathews homered twice to put the only runs of the game for the Snappers on the board. The Snappers fell to the Quad Cities River Bandits by a score of 5-2 to lose two out of the three game series.

The River Bandits offense really got hot during the third inning when Chase McDonald double to bring in Bobby Boyd to score. Then A.J. Reed hit a three run homer, his fifth of the season. In the fifth inning, Quad Cities extended their lead when A.J. Reed doubled to score Jose Fernandez.

The only offense the Snappers got tonight was from Ryan Mathews, who hit two solo homers. The first one was in the fourth inning and the second one came in the bottom of the ninth inning. Those were his ninth and tenth homeruns of the season.

Lou Trivino got the start for Beloit tonight and ended up with the loss. Trivino pitched five innings and allowed eight hits, allowed five runs, and finished the night with a 5.00 ERA. He goes to 7-10 on the season.

Trevor Bayless and Joe Michaud did well in relief for the Snappers but the Snappers just couldn't find offense from anyone besides Ryan Mathews. Bayless pitches two innings and only allowed one hit. Michaud also pitched two innings and didn't allow any hits. Neither, Bayless or Michaud, allowed any runs.

The Snappers go on the road to Appleton, WI tomorrow for a three game series against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Afterwards, they go on the road to Peoria for a three game series. The team will return home for their final three games to play the Timber Rattlers again on Saturday, August 30th for Fan Appreciation Night.
