Quad Cities needed a win to stay alive in the playoff race and they got that victory over the Beloit Snappers on Friday night. Quad Cities slugged three home runs and the Snappers had the tying run in scoring position before the River Bandits slammed the door closed. The Snappers have now lost 10 of their last 12 games with seven of the 10 losses being decided by two runs or fewer.
Yordan Alvarez accounted for the first runs of the game on a two-run homer to center. Daz Cameron and Marcos Almonte each hit solo bombs that swelled the Bandits lead up to 5-1 heading for the middle of the fifth. Luis Barrera and Kyle Nowlin each connected on RBI singles in the fifth that pulled the Snappers within two. In the ninth, Eric Mariñez and J.C. Rodriguez started the inning with singles. With the tying run now aboard, Quad Cities turn to Salvador Montano with no outs and the lefty struck out the top three hitters in the Snappers order to close out the contest.

Barrera recorded his 20th multi-hit game with a pair of singles and scored twice on Friday night. Rodriguez got on-base all four times he came to the plate on a pair of singles and two walks. Miguel Mercedes was 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to seven games. Nate Mondou broke an 0-for-17 collar with a third innings single.
On the mound, Mitchell Jordan allowed all three River Bandits homers and shouldered the loss in his fourth consecutive outing. Xavier Altamirano inherited a pair of runners and eventually loaded the bases before he worked out of the fifth inning. Altamirano threw four scoreless innings and fanned eight to build his streak of scoreless relief up to 27 1/3 innings dating back May 11 in Fort Wayne. Joseph Camacho also worked out a bases-loaded situation in the ninth to hold Quad Cities off the board.
