Snappers Fall in All 3 Games in West Michigan

April 14, 2014

COMSTOCK PARK, MI- The Beloit Snappers finished up a 3 game series in West Michigan last night against the Whitecaps, the Midwest League affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. It didn't turn out to be a good series as the Snappers lost all 3 games.

The first game was a close one. Neither team scored a run until the eighth inning. Beloit scored their run via a double by BJ Boyd that sent Luis Baez home. West Michigan scored their run in the eighth on a fielding error by first baseman, Ryan Huck. The game couldn't be decided in nine innings so off to extras the teams we went. The Snappers used 5 different pitchers in the game, considering that it went to 14 innings. The last and final pitcher, who ended up getting the loss, was Beloit's utility infielder, Sam Roberts. Roberts is no stranger to the mound, seeing as he pitched at the Virginia Military Institute. Roberts pitched 1.1 innings and only allowed one hit that happened to be the game scoring run. The 1-1 score wasn't broken until the bottom of the 14th inning when Wynton Benard doubled on a line drive to center field to score Brett Harrison.

The second game wasn't so close at all. The Snappers jumped on the scoreboard first when Ryan Mathews doubled to score BJ Boyd in the first inning. It was all downhill for Beloit from there, as the Whitecaps scored 8 unanswered runs. Dylan Covey ended up getting the loss for the Snappers and finished with a 5.06 ERA.

The third game that was on Sunday was another close one but Beloit was served with a loss once again. West Michigan drove in a run in the first inning and another one in the fifth to jump out to a 2-0 lead. It looked as though the Snappers were going to make a comeback and try to steal the last game of the series when they scored a run in the top of the eighth inning when BA Vollmuth singled on a line drive to right field to score BJ Boyd. Unfortunately, the Snappers couldn't score any more runs and the final score of the game was 2-1.

The Snappers return home to Pohlman Field in Beloit tonight. They will be home for 6 straight nights. Monday through Wednesday they will be playing the Great Lakes Loons, the Midwest league affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Thursday through Saturday the Snappers will be facing the Lansing Lugnuts, the Midwest league affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. All of the games in this homestand start at 6:30pm with the exception of Saturday, which starts at 2:00pm. Don't forget to get your tickets at the Snappers front office or from www.snappersbaseball.com.
