Snappers Get Swept By Loons
BELOIT, WI- The Snappers dropped their 7th game in a row this evening, the 3rd straight against the Great Lakes Loons. The Loons won all 3 games while they were in Beloit. The loss by the Snappers tonight was definitely not a lack of effort. Beloit managed to take the Loons into extra innings where they fell 7-6 in 10 innings.
Lou Trivino, the starting pitcher for Beloit started out really strong by pitching 4 scoreless innings. He finished the night at 5.2 IP and a 4.61 ERA. The Snappers got on the scoreboard first when Andy Paz laid down a sacrifice bunt in the 2nd to score Chih-Fang Pan. In the top of the 5th inning the Loons took the lead by scoring two runs. Right afterwards, Beloit scored 3 runs with a series of doubles by Ryan Mathews and Chih-Fang Pan and a sacrifice fly to center field by BA Vollmuth.
In the 7th, Ryan Mathews adds onto the Snappers lead by hitting his second homer of the year. Both of his homeruns have come in this Great Lakes series. He now leads the roster in homeruns. Mathews' homer, a solo, then put Beloit up 5-2.
The Loons started their comeback in the 8th inning when Alex Santana hit a 2 run homer off of Beloit's Sam Bragg to make the score 5-4.
In the top of the 9th inning Dominique Vattuone came in to pitch and replaced Bragg. Vattuone just joined the Snappers today. In fact, he ended up getting in to town and to the stadium at 5:55pm. The gates had already been open up for 25 minutes at that point. Vattuone didn't stay in the game for long, only one inning, before Andres Avila replaced him. Vattuone allowed 2 runs in that one inning when Jacob Scavuzzo went yard for the first time this season and Joey Curletta doubled to score Delvis Morales. After the top of the 9th the Loons were up, 6-5.
The Snappers really tried their best to pull this one out by evening the game up at 6-6 after Ryan Huck doubled to score Ryan Mathews. Jaycob Brugman came in as a pinch runner to replace Ryan Huck. Brugman, usually an outfielder, stayed in the game at first base.
Andres Avila came in to pitch in the top of the 10th. Alex Santana scored the eventual game winning run when Malcolm Holland singled to right field. The Snappers just couldn't answer in the bottom of the 10th inning and they ended up losing to the Loons 7-6.
The Great Lakes Loons broke their own franchise record by stealing 7 bases. They tied the record with 6 stolen bases the previous night in the first game of the double header against Beloit.
