In their final road game of the season, the Snappers defiantly dodged a sweep to Wisconsin with a 7-2 victory in the finale of the season series with the cross-state Timber Rattlers. Each Beloit and Wisconsin won nine of 18 total head-to-heat matchups in 2017, the same as the 2016 season series. On 21 combined hits and eight walks, five half-innings featured bases-loaded situations between the two squads.
Beloit loaded the bases three times on Friday and scored three times with each of their first two opportunities. Kyle Nowlin, Jesus Lopez, and Edwin Diaz all had multiple at-bats with the bases full and came through with an RBI apiece. Lopez capped the three-run third with an RBI walk and grounded into a double play twice during the fifth and eighth. In the sixth, Nowlin extended the Snappers lead to 4-0 with his team-best 66th RBI as Edwin Diaz finished the inning with an RBI single.
With plenty of run support, Xavier Altamirano limited the Timber Rattlers to just one run over six innings and struck out seven during his fifth quality start of the season. Wisconsin's lone run off the righty in his final start of the season came in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Zach Clark. Wisconsin loaded the bases for the second time in the eighth on reliever Heath Bowers and scored on a wild pitch, but Sam Sheehan entered for the Snappers to strand three as he picked up his team-best sixth save.
Miguel Mercedes and Josh Vidales each got aboard four times. Mercedes drove in Beloit's first run of the game with his 58th RBI of the year to start the third and finished the night 2-for-3 with a pair of walks. Vidales had a three-hit night and knock a run home in the sixth from the leadoff spot. Mike Martin went 3-for-5 and Edwin Diaz was 2-for-5, each with an RBI as six different Snappers drove in a run.
