Altoona, Penn. - The Somerset Patriots (54-37) rallied late but took a 6-5 walk-off loss to the Altoona Curve (48-42) Wednesday night at People’s Natural Gas Field.

The Patriots were trailing the game 4-3 through seven innings, but got a Dermis Garcia sac fly to tie the game in the eighth before an Oswald Peraza two-out RBI double in the ninth put Somerset ahead by a run.

The Curve responded quickly and won the game in the bottom of the ninth on a two-run walk-off home run from Daniel Amaral (7).

Altoona jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on a two-run shot from former Patriot infielder Diego Castillo (16) in the bottom of the first. From there, Somerset plated three quick runs on a Thomas Milone RBI single, Oswaldo Cabrera (15) solo home run and Jason Lopez RBI base hit over the next two innings to take the lead.

The Curve later tied the game in the sixth on a Castillo run-scoring fielder’s choice and took the lead briefly in the seventh on Josh Bissonette’s RBI double.

Cristofer Melendez (W, 3-2) took the win after he allowed two runs (one earned) over two innings of relief. Michael Gomez (L, 3-2) yielded the walk-off home run to take the loss.

The Patriots and Curve continue their six-game series Thursday night. Right-handed pitcher Luis Medina (3-2, 4.43 ERA) takes the mound for Somerset against Altoona southpaw Trey McGough (3-3, 3.84 ERA). First pitch at People’s Natural Gas Field is set for 6:30 p.m.
