Binghamton, New York – The Somerset Patriots (76-47) used a dominant defensive showcase to breeze by the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (49-74) on Saturday night.

Everson Pereira led the way for Somerset with a 2-for-4 day at the plate. The performance included a first inning double where he scored the game's first run, an outfield assist to nab Carlos Cortes in the bottom of the first and a fourth inning home run that gave the Patriots the decisive lead in the game.

Pereira's first inning double was hit to the same location of Mirabito Stadium as his single from Friday night, in which he was thrown out by Cortes trying to stretch the play into a double.

He reached third on a wild pitch and came home on a sacrifice fly by Austin Wells to give the Patriots the initial lead.

In the fourth inning, Pereira's fifth Double-A home run put the Patriots up 2-1.

One inning later, Elijah Dunham ripped a two-run double down the right field line to give the Patriots the last of their four runs.

Somerset starter Clayton Beeter pitched another gem, setting a career-high in innings pitched for a second straight outing with 4.2 IP. He also tied his career high of nine strikeouts for a second straight start, but came one out shy of qualifying for the win.

Nick Ernst replaced Beeter and earned his fourth winning decision out of his last five appearances to improve to 6-0 on the year.

With Ernst pitching, the battery of left fielder Jeisson Rosario and shortstop Max Burt gunned down Jeremy Vasquez trying to score on a ball hit to the left field wall.

Nelvin Correa, Steven Jennings and Carson Coleman locked down the remainder of the game, as Andres Chaparro turned a stellar double play with the tying run at the plate to end the game.

The win vaults Somerset to a season-best 29 games above .500, now with a record of 76-47.

The Patriots will enter Sunday night tied in their season series with the Rumble Ponies with one final game to be played.

The 2022 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue with a 6:35 p.m. first pitch vs. the Rumble Ponies at Mirabito Stadium.

Yankees No. 8 prospect RHP Will Warren will get the start for Somerset opposite Rumble Ponies RHP Tony Dibrell.

Fans can follow the action live as Steven Cusumano calls the play-by-play on MiLB.tv and FOX Sports New Jersey 93.5 FM | 1450 AM, the Flagship Station for Patriots Baseball, with pregame coverage beginning at 6:20 p.m.
