Bridgewater, New Jersey – The fans have spoken and selected their Somerset Stars for the 2022 season. For the past few weeks, thousands of fans voted online to pick the top Somerset Patriots players for different performance-based categories. The winners are:

Hitting Star & Clutch Star

SS Anthony Volpe:

Volpe was called up to Triple-A on September 2. His Eastern League ranks at time of his promotion were 31 2B (T-1st), 44 SB (2nd), 70 R (2nd), 52 XBH (2nd), 196 TB (4th), 57 BB (5th), and .829 OPS (10th). He was also the team leader in HR (18), RBI (60), SLG (.472), H (106), 2B (31), 3B (4, T-1st), XBH (53), TB (199), R (71), multi-hit games (26) and SB (44). He also ranked 2nd on the team in BA (.251), OPS (.820) and BB (57) and 3rd in OBP (.348).

Volpe’s was the team leader with seven game-tying or game-winning hits in the 7th inning or later. He sent the Patriots to the postseason for the first time as the Yankees’ Double-A affiliate with an extra inning walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning on the final day of the first half.

Pitching Star

RHP Sean Boyle:

Boyle was called up to Triple-A on August 9. He had 10 straight quality starts at time of his promotion (the most in MiLB since 2019). Boyle led the Eastern League in ERA (1.68), IP (64.1, most in MiLB), K (62), WHIP (0.84) AVG (.188) and W (6). He struck out 8 straight batters on 5/5. His Eastern League ranks at the time of his promotion were 3.75 ERA (5th), 8 W (T-1st), 117 K (2nd), 108 IP (1st), 1.03 WHIP (2nd), and .226 BAA (3rd). Boyle was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Month (July) and the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week (7/17).

Defensive Star

Jesus Bastidas:

Bastidas leads all Eastern League 2B in fielding percentage (.973) in his 92 games at the position. At second, Bastidas had 131 putouts and 228 assists in 369 total chances in 795 innings played. He also holds a .903 fielding percentage at shortstop in 19 games, 62 total chances and 156 innings.

Breakout Star:

Jeisson Rosario:

In his fifth professional season, and first with the Yankees, Rosario hit a career-high 11 HR. His previous high for a season was 3. Rosie ended the season tied for the Eastern league lead in BB (64) and ranks 7th in OBP (.363), which leads all qualified Patriots batters. He also leads all Somerset outfielders with six outfield assists. He became the first Patriot since becoming the Yankees Double-A affiliate to hit for the cycle on July 17.
