Reading, Penn. - The Somerset Patriots (44-28) got an RBI single from Michael Beltre in the top of the 10th to lead them to a 5-4 extra-inning win over the Reading Fightin Phils (29-44) Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Somerset had carried a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the ninth before a Logan Landon RBI double sent the game into extra innings. Beltre’s RBI single in the 10th came with two outs to put the Patriots ahead.

Kevin Gadea (SV, 1) came on in the bottom of the 10th inning and loaded the bases on a pair of walks with nobody out. Gadea settled down from there, striking out Josh Stephen, inducing a weak line-out from Granny Cumana, and ultimately striking out Colby Fitch to preserve the win and earn his first save of the season.

The Fightins jumped out to an early 3-1 lead with a Madison Stokes first-inning RBI single and a Luke Miller (11) second-inning two-run home run.

Somerset tied it up on a Beltre (12) two-run home run in the fourth. He finished the game 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI. The Patriots then took a 4-3 lead in the fifth on a run-scoring fielder’s choice from Oswald Peraza.

Addison Russ (W, 2-1) (BS, 2) got the win after he allowed one run and struck out four over 2.1 innings of relief. He was on the mound in the bottom of the ninth when Reading tied the game. Brian Marconi (L, 1-2) yielded one unearned run and was saddled with the loss.

The Patriots and Fightin’ Phils continue their series Wednesday night. Southpaw JP Sears (3-1, 3.59 ERA) takes the mound for Somerset against Reading right-hander Jack Perkins (2-1, 3.56 ERA). First pitch at FirstEnergy Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
