Ballpark Digest has named the Nashville Sounds as an "Honorable Mention" choice for 2017 Team of the Year. The award recognizes the team that made the biggest impact on the industry through improved operations, increased attendance, and promotional efforts.
"This is a tremendous honor for the Nashville Sounds organization and we're extremely humbled by the recognition. We strive to deliver the best possible fan experience at First Tennessee Park," said Sounds General Manager Adam Nuse. "We share this acknowledgement with our fans here in Music City as the support they've shown us has been remarkable."
The Sounds topped the Pacific Coast League in average attendance as 8,861 fans per game came through gates at First Tennessee Park during the 2017 season. Overall, a ballpark-record 593,679 fans packed the third-year park throughout the season, including 22 sellouts.
"The transformation of the Nashville Sounds certainly bore fruit in 2017, as the team's attendance soared," said Kevin Reichard, Ballpark Digest publisher. "Nashville has certainly embraced the Sounds and the First Tennessee Park experience, and it's our honor to recognize the result of hard work from team ownership and management."
Among several popular promotions the Sounds displayed in 2017 was the two-game series as the Nashville Honky Tonks, paying tribute to Nashville as the true Music City. Other hit promotions were Star Wars Weekend and the Guinness World Record Air Guitar attempt.
Three out of 160 Minor League Baseball teams were recognized by Ballpark Digest, with the Sounds garnering one of two honorable mention spots.
The Sounds organization was also a nominee to win Minor League Baseball's Larry MacPhail Award, which recognizes the team that best demonstrates exceptional promotional efforts and creative marketing within its community and ballpark.
The 2018 season will be the Sounds' 41st in franchise history and fourth as the Oakland Athletics' top affiliate. Season ticket memberships are available now by calling (615) 690-4487 or by visiting www.nashvillesounds.com.
