Fort Wayne, IN: After retiring the first two batters he faced in the bottom of the 1st inning, Rollie Lacy looked like he would cruise through a scoreless first frame.

That was until the Fort Wayne TinCaps went on a five run, two out rally off of the South Bend Cubs. With two errors, two walks, and a pair of base hits, the TinCaps took the commanding 5-0 lead after just an inning. This would be the theme of the night as the Cubs made seven total errors and lost the game 13-2 to open the series.
Lacy finished his outing with four complete innings. He allowed nine runs, but only one was earned due to the errors made by the defense. The right hander walked five and struck out three in his start. Despite only one earned run, he took the loss and his record falls to 0-1.
On the other side of the mound, left hander Nick Margevicius tossed a gem for the Tincaps. In seven innings, he allowed two runs and struck out eight. With the strikeouts, Margevicius takes the active league lead in K's with 52 on the campaign. Lake County right hander Eli Morgan previously held the lead but was called up this week.
The only Cub to do any damage in the scoring column off of Margevicius was Michael Cruz. Cruz drove in both runs for the Cubs on Friday night. In the top of the 5th, he brought in Austin Filiere on a RBI sac fly.
Two innings later, Cruz hit his 5th home run of the year deep over the right field wall. Cruz now ties Miguel Amaya for the team lead in home runs.
Fort Wayne added four combined runs in the 7th and 8th innings off of Manuel Rondon and Brendan King. They hit two home runs of their own in the game with a three run blast coming from catcher Juan Fernandez, and a solo shot hit by Tirso Ornelas.
Starting the year with an 0-7 record, Fort Wayne has turned their season around now with a record of 18-22. With the loss, the Cubs have now dropped a spot in the Eastern Division standings to Fort Wayne.
South Bend will look to turn things around in game two of the series tomorrow scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Right hander Cory Abbott will take the mound for the Cubs Saturday night from Parkview Field.
