South Bend, IN: The South Bend Cubs got their revenge.

South Bend, IN: The South Bend Cubs got their revenge.

After being beat handily by the Beloit Snappers in both of the past two days, the Cubs beat Beloit 6-1 on Friday night to take the series finale and third overall game of the homestand. The win gives the Cubs another opportunity to stay above the .500 mark consistently. With the victory, they jump to 46-45 and 12-10 in the second half.
Friday's start looked worrisome as the Cubs dug themselves the same whole as they have in the past two days. With Beloit scoring first by plating their one and only run in the top of the 1st inning off of starter Javier Assad, the Snappers looked to be in a position to sweep the series.
But then the South Bend bats woke up.
All of the Cubs damage came in both the 3rd and 4th innings. The rally got started in the 3rd inning when Christian Donahue walked. That was followed by four straight base runners and three runs. Rafael Narea brought in the first two South Bend runs on a double. Austin Filiere then brought in Narea on a RBI sacrifice fly.
With all the runs being scored against starter Ivan Andueza, the Beloit southpaw took his fifth loss of the year. The Cubs plated three more runs in the 4th inning. Cam Balego and Donahue started things with two straight singles. Singleton hit his first triple of 2018 to score them both. Finally, Davis ripped a single to drive in Singleton.
With a 6-1 lead, Cubs starter Javier Assad exited after five innings of one-run ball. The righty earned his fifth win of the season and struck out three batters. Out of the bullpen, Ben Hecht and Brian Glowicki combined for four scoreless innings and seven strikeouts. Glowicki, second in the Midwest League in saves with 14, shut the door in the 8th and 9th
Other notable performances included 2018 Chicago Cubs first round pick Nico Hoerner. The former Stanford Cardinal picked up his third hit in two games and also had one walk.
The win is a step in the right direction for South Bend. Three more games now remain on this homestand with the series opener against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers set for 7:05 p.m. Lefty Brendon Little is scheduled to start for the Cubs.
