BOX SCORE

The South Bend Cubs (16-16) saw their three-game winning streak come to end in a 6-1 loss to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (16-17) on Thursday night.

Bradford Deppermann made his second career start and lasted just 1.2 innings, allowing five runs on just a two hits. Both hits came in the opening frame and all of the first inning damage was done on a two-out two-RBI base hit off the bat of Jesús Lujano.

In the second inning five straight reached base for the Timber Rattlers, bringing in three runs. Deppermann hit Nick Kahle with one out and then walked the next three batters. Brewers number one prospect Garrett Mitchell followed with a hard hit ball that got by Josue Huma at second base and scored a pair of runs, it was the lone error defensively for South Bend.

Justin Bullock took it from there as the Wisconsin starter, in his first-ever start in high-a baseball, tossed five scoreless frames while striking out 10 and not walking a batter.

The Cubs got their lone run in the sixth inning. Edmond Americaan reached on an error and then stole second and third base with Delvin Zinn at the plate, and scored with Zinn still at the plate on a wild pitch.

Carlos Luna took it the rest of the way for the no-hitter, picking up a save by tossing the final four innings of the ballgame and allowing just one batter to reach base, via an error.

Next Up: RHP Max Bain (2-2, 6.85 ERA) vs. RHP Justin Jarvis (0-4, 5.74 ERA).

South Bend hosts Wisconsin for game four of this series at 7:05 p.m. on Friday night. It’s a Fantastic Friday Fireworks night at Four Winds field, presented by 1st Source Bank, WNDU, and Sunny 101.5 fm.
