*SOTUH BEND, IN – *The Cubs dropped game two of the series against Lake County and the series is no tied a game apiece with four more to go at Four Winds Field. After a rain delay of about 30 mins the Captains this time were the side that came back from an early crooked number to get the victory.

Tuesday night South Bend surrendered the first three runs of the game in the first and three homers plus a two-run double later won the game 8-4. The next night the Cubs struck first with a two-out, two-run blast off the top of the batter's eye from Owen Caissie. The 20-year-old's 10th long ball of the season was part of a three-hit effort that saw him finish just a double shy of the cycle.

Tyler Schlaffer made his South Bend Cubs debut on the mound after getting promoted from low-A Myrtle Beach Tuesday afternoon. The right-hander, who gre up just 30 miles south of Wrigley Field, tossed the first three innings scoreless and faced just one over the minmum thanks to two ground ball double plays.

However, the Captains would get to him in the fourth. With two outs and the bases clear Petey Halpin ripped a single to right and then Johnathan Rodriguez crushed an opposite field homer to tie the game, 2-2. For Rodriguez it was his 12th round-tripper of the season.

The Cubs took the lead right back in their half of the fourth. Jordan Nwogu singled to begin the frame and swiped second base, the second of three stolen bases for the Cubs. two batters later Pablo Aliendo delivered. The Cubs catcher fell behind 0-and-2, fouled away a couple pitches, then rifled a double to give the Cubs a 3-2 lead.

Eduarniel Nunez came out of the bullpen first for South Bend, replacing Schlaffer who left in line for the win after the fifth. Nunez hasn't allowed a run in 11-straight innings. But in the sixth Alexfri Planez singled with one out, Halpin followed with his second single of the night, and Rodriguez was hit to load the bases. Angel Martinez, in his first game off the IL, grounded one to third and Luis Verdugo came home to get the lead runner. A bases loaded walk to Gabriel Rodriguez tied it and Micael gave the Captains the lead for good with a single.

South Bend's biggest chance at another comeback came in the fifth. Caissie singled followed by a stolen base with a throwing error and a Nwogu walk. With runners at first and third and no one out the Cubs did not score. Nowgu was picked off of first, the next pitch Kevin Made struck out, and Aliendo sent a humpback liner to the wall in left that was tracked down by Connor Kokx.

The Cubs try to avenge the tight loss with a win in game three on Thursday night. First pitch is at 7:05 ET.
