The State College Spikes are set to welcome two longtime Central PA high school baseball rivals as the State College Little Lions will meet the defending state champion Bellefonte Red Raiders this Saturday, April 8 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
The latest chapter of the State College-Bellefonte rivalry will take place following Penn State's game against Ohio State on the same date. First pitch for the PSU-OSU matchup is set for 2:00 p.m. Fans wishing to attend the State College-Bellefonte game can purchase a ticket for the Penn State game and receive free admission to the high school game afterward.
Once the Penn State game ends, general admission tickets for the State College-Bellefonte game will be available at the Medlar Field at Lubrano Park Ticket Office for $3 apiece.
The Red Raiders will return to the site of one of the greatest triumphs in school history for the clash with the Little Lions. This past June at Medlar Field, Bellefonte won its first-ever PIAA Class AAA state championship with a 2-0 victory over Susquehanna Township.
"We are looking forward to hosting the Little Lions and Red Raiders at Medlar Field for a memorable matchup after the PSU-OSU game," said Spikes General Manager and Bellefonte alum Scott Walker. "The opportunity to host these two storied programs is a great chance to once again grow the game of baseball here in Central PA."
"We are thrilled to be able to bring a State High baseball game to Medlar Field this spring," said State College Area High School Athletic Director Peg Pennepacker. "It is especially exciting to play a local school like Bellefonte, and this event creates a great opportunity for our program, the school and the community. I hope that everyone comes out to enjoy this game on April 8. Go State!"
"It's great to see two local programs with tremendous history get an opportunity to compete and showcase the local talent," said Bellefonte Area High School Athletic Director Jonathan Clark. "When you add in the opportunity to play the game at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, it makes it pretty special."
Live coverage of the game will be provided on NEWSRADIO 1390 WRSC. 970 AM/106.3 FM WBLF will also broadcast the game with Norm Brown and Todd Brown on the call.
Medlar Field is set to play host to the first ever six-class PIAA Baseball Championships this June. More information on the PIAA state championships will be available at a later date.
