The New York-Penn League officially unveiled the 2017 All-Star rosters and the Lowell Spinners were honored with three selections. Right-handed reliever Denyi Reyes, third baseman Garrett Benge, and outfielder Yoan Aybar will be heading to Troy, NY for the 2017 New York-Penn League All-Star game.
Denyi Reyes has dominated out of the bullpen for the Spinners this season. He currently leads the club with a 5-0 record and a 1.83 ERA. He has been on a hot streak as of late, striking out nine batters in six innings of relief. He currently ranks third in the league with a 1.83 ERA and has not surrendered an earned run since July 21st.
Benge, a 13th-round pick in this year's First-Year Player Draft out of Oklahoma State, has quickly emerged as one of the toughest outs in the NYPL. His .372 on-base percentage leads the team as do his 20 walks. His biggest day of the season came on July 31st in Connecticut when he went 5-for-5 with five RBI while falling a home run shy of the cycle.
Outfielder Yoan Aybar returned to Lowell for a second season and completely turned around his performance. After hitting just .207 in 60 games with the Spinners last season, Aybar is now hitting .266 with a league-leading five triples. He also leads the Spinners in RBI (20) and total bases (20).
The New York-Penn League All-Star game will take place on Monday, August 14 in Troy, NY, home of the Tri-City ValleyCats.
